As Commodore 64 month draws to a close, episode 17 of Press Play on Tape rolls in to prove that the Commodore is still keeping up with you!
Hosts Alex and Aaron are joined by Ant Stiller and Hellfire64’s Rob Caporetto on a roundtable discussion on everyone’s favourite 34 year old bread bin. The group discusses what makes the system special to them, how they’ve been celebrating C64 month, and if there’s anything they’d ever do to change the system. There is also a look at some of the brand new releases that have caught their eye in recent times, and a few of the upcoming titles on the horizon.
The audience were challenged to tell us what game defined the Commodore 64 for them. The lads definitely weren’t ready for the overwhelming response - definitely proving that people are still keeping up with the Commodore!

Press Play on Tape Episode 16: The one where Sega released a computer
Is it See-ga, or Say-ga? This, and many more things are discussed as your PRESS PLAY ON TAPE Podcast hosts Alex, Daz and Aaron take a look at that one time Sega entered the Home Computer market. Joined by Tim from the Retro Domination & +3 to Geekdom podcasts, we explore Sega’s history in the lead up to, and following the release of their SC-3000 computer.
The group discusses the different versions of the SC-3000 and where it was released, before taking a peek under the hood to see what hardware drove it. Listen as we talk through some of the accessories Sega made for it – including what might be one of the most expensive floppy disk add-ons ever! It’d be a boring computer without the games, and given SEGA’s arcade history there’s plenty to be discussed. The team runs through some of the games for the SC-3000, including a unique hidden gem from two of Sega’s greatest developers that you’ll only find on the SC-3000 (and SG-1000)!
This month Daz finally got his chance to pick Activision as the publisher of choice, who almost need no introduction. As the world’s first independent games publisher, they have an overwhelming history of games to choose from, yet our listeners still manage to pull a few out from left-field.

As the weather in the southern hemisphere gets cooler, the Press Play On Tape podcast heats things up with three hosts and one very special guest! In this episode, we welcome Aaron Clement as our co-host and we sit down to have a chat with the C64-centric Reset magazine editor extraordinaire, Kevin Tilley (aka: Unkle K). We probe Unkle K about all things Reset – how the magazine came to be, its evolution, highlights, lowlights and any sneaky inside information on the upcoming issue. For the publisher of choice, Unkle K chose Hewson Consultants, which had no shortage of classic video games! We hit the social media channels to read our your fave Hewson published games and we even have time for shout outs. Daz and Aaron also get to speak to Paul Bridger the director and producer of the new documentary The Amiga Works - Alister Brimble. Finally, the great Atari 16-bit computer gets its time to shine on the PRESS PLAY ON TAPE podcast! With Maximum Power Up’s podcaster, Paul Monaghan as the special guest, Daz is outnumbered and admits defeat in the 16-bit computer battle. The cast looks back fondly at the ST and its many great games, from exclusives like Oids, to awesome arcade conversions like R-Type and the ultimate adventure RPG, Dungeon Master.Rainbow Arts was chosen as the publisher of choice, with The Great Giana Sisters and Turrican getting lots of love from the lads. This month also saw a record number of responses for the audience question, which goes to show that there is plenty of love for Atari’s Sixteen/Thirty-two computer! So grab your Amiga mates and STart me up!

A new year brings new ideas! The Press Play On Tape (PPOT) hosts have introduced a new segment which aims to get to know you, the awesome listeners, that little bit better. The PPOT crew aim to find out how you got into gaming, what your fave systems and games are, knowing about your collection, and anything else that is cool to know and discuss! The hope is that this becomes a regular segment. Having said that, all new things need to start somewhere, so the first guineapig, ahem, we mean special guest on ‘Getting To Know You‘, is the Tasmanian Jedi, Aaron Clement! The crew delves deep into Aaron’s past and takes many a tangents, but we promise you, it is all compelling listening! Insert tape, rewind to start, press play and listen to our special guest, Rob Caporetto, give a master class in all things Acorn and the BBC Micro! Listen carefully, as we assure you that you’ll learn something new – we definitely did! The honor of selecting the publisher of choice went to our special guest, with Rob opting for a left-field publisher Synapse Software. After much deliberation about this obscure software house, we were pleasantly surprised to learn that Synapse created a fair number of games that we actually enjoyed playing on our beloved 8-bit micros, and it seems you agreed with us by giving us your top Synapse games in our social media discussion. As another year rolls around, the PRESS PLAY ON TAPE lads kick off the new year by gushing over their beloved Commodore 64. The lads are joined by none other than Mr. Mark Cassar (from Retro Domination and +3 Geekdom fame) in their C64 love-in. Alex starts off by giving us a crash course on the history of the C64, followed up by the best C64 games, which would not be a surprise to anyone listening. The audience participation was huge on Twitter, while Facebook languished with only a solitary response! Daz dropped a bombshell by opting for US Gold as the publisher of choice for the first episode of 2016. Ho, Ho, Ho, Merry Christmas! It's just Daz and Alex for the final episode of Press Play On Tape for 2015 - it's so strange that it's just them two! Before there is any sitting on Santa’s knee and looking into his big red sack, the lads get all misty-eyed in their reflection of the year that was and then get excited about the year that will be. Alex gets excited about a few Kickstarters coming to fruition, while Daz gets excited about the unknown!
Press play on tape one final time for 2015 to hear the lads reminisce about their favourite old Xmas magazine issues and what they wish Santa will leave under the Christmas tree for them. Oh yeh, they even ask the audience what they wish Santa will bring them this Christmas! So be merry, stay safe and enjoy!

When Marty and Doc visited Oct 21 2015, they failed to tell us that the venerable Commodore 64 was still going strong, even after 33 years after its release. In episode 8 of Press Play on Tape, Daz and Alex welcome the time traveler, Mr Ant Stiller, who will finally set on the very rosy future of the C64. Once we hit 88MPH, we’ll discover games, magazines, music, demos, hardware and all other shades of homebrew awesomeness that the C64 still receives, after many of its contemporaries had been left in its dust!
